Swann RemoteCam Video Camera and Recorder

Return to Latest Accessories »

Coming in a box no bigger than a few CDs, the Swann RemoteCam is a lightweight piece of kit. Flip open the box and the gadget itself is no bigger than a car central locking key fob, with four ridged buttons moulded into the rubberised body. On the side is a MicroSD card slot as well as a mini USB, whilst up the front your spot the microscopic camera lens and microphone.

To get started with the RemoteCam, the unit is charged via the mini USB. A lead is supplied in the box, and the camera takes just four hours for a full charge. Whilst it does warm up in this process, it doesn’t do so to a worrying level, meaning you feel confident to leave it plugged into your computer all morning.

To capture a still photo is very simply, turn on, point and press the record button once. To record a movie press and hold the record button until the flashing stops.

Composition is a little tricky to get the hang of as it’s hard to really know where the lens is directed. Too close and the camera is out of focus. Too contrasty and the camera blows the highlights.

For quick, covert shots and videos the Swann RemoteCam is pocketable and easy to use, but if image quality is important too, a super slim compact can’t be beaten.

Final Verdict
Compact and covert it is but mastering the photography with this device might be too much effort
